Nine To Race In Town Policy Handicap On Saturday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 9, 2017—A strong group of sophomore sprinters will get together on Saturday night for the running of the $25,000 Town Policy Handicap at 400 yards at Los Alamitos.

The field will include Grade 1 winner Lotta Blues Man plus stakes winners AJS Anna Smoke, Staggering Stride, and Trippys Royal Jess.

The fillies Staggering Stride and Trippys Royal Jess are both owned by Abigail Kawananakoa and trained by Chris O’Dell and are among the sharpest runners going into this race.

The stablemates finished 1-2 in the La Pacifica Handicap earlier this year with Staggering Stride crossing the wire a half-length ahead of Trippys Royal Jess. A case could be made that Trippys Royal Jess has had a more consistent overall campaign.

She was second in a dead-heat to That Rico in the Grade 2 Golden State Derby and before that she won the Indigo Illusion Handicap and was second in the Seal Beach Handicap. The Apollitical Jess filly has been second or better in each of her seven starts this year. Eduardo Nicasio will ride. Staggering Stride has done great work as well.

In addition to winning the La Pacifica, the Mr Jess Perry filly was fourth in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby and third in the Grade 3 La Primera Del Ano Derby. Jose Nicasio, the up-and-coming young rider, will be aboard Staggering Stride from the outside post nine.

Lucky Seven Ranch’s Lotta Blues Man, winner of the Golden State Million Futurity last year, and 2016 Governor’s Cup Futurity winner AJS Anna Smoke are among the top boys in this race. AJS Anna Smoke was purchased by John Cooper and Ron Hartley at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale last month. Ed Allred’s Well Good, third in the Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap an allowance winner in his last, is another of the top contenders in this race.
