Portland Meadows Fall Derby At 400 Yards Draws Spotlight For Monday Card

PORTLAND, OR—NOVEMBER 18, 2017—Top three-year-old Quarter Horses will take the stage in the near $20,000 Portland Meadows Fall Derby Monday afternoon at the historic racing venue.

Top qualifier CM Partners In Crime will bring her talents into the dash for Owner Randy Dickerson and Trainer Nick Lowe. The sophomore daughter of Ivory James will head out of post five after winning her trial heat in a time of 20:61, she will be reunited with her partner in racing, Luis Gonzalez.

Jockey Gonzalez missed the mount in the trials after being shaken up earlier in the card on that day. The Idaho-bred filly has won four races lifetime from 16 starts and has won two of her last three races.

Morning line favorite Henry Craig looms to be the main rival in the race after narrowly missing to Perry’s Getting Down in the trials. Sporting the colors of Cedar Creek Tree Farm Ranch & Racing, the young son of One Sweet Jess has finished no worse than third in any of his ten career starts.

Trained by Hector Magallanes, Henry Craig has a stellar record of 7-2-1 with victories that include last year’s Pot Of Gold Futurity at Sun Downs, The Firecracker Futurity at Grant’s Pass and The Oregon Bred Juvenile at Portland Meadows. He also took third best in The Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos last year as well. Jockey Eduardo Sosa is the regular pilot for Henry Craig.

Adrian and Atilano Gonzalez will have Perry’s Getting Down heading postward under the guidance of Jockey Armando Cervantes who arrives from California for the assignment.

Trainer Hector Magallanes will be busy in the paddock as he has four of the finalists to saddle in the field as he will also send The Cartel Hawk and L Bar D Bonnie Lee. The Fall Derby will be the third race on the Monday program.
