Regard The Rose Draws 9 for Shue Fly Stakes Final

SUNLAND PARK, NM—JANUARY 8, 2017—Mason A. King’s Regard The Rose, a brown daughter of Chicks Regard and the fastest qualifier, is one of 10 New Mexico-bred sophomores entered back in Sunday’s 400-yard, $206,852 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park.

Regard The Rose has won five of six races, including the 400-yard, $30,000 Arapahoe Park Futurity in August, and she has earned $61,130. The filly ended her juvenile campaign with a wire-to-wire, 2 3/4-length victory in the third of four Shue Fly trials on December 22.

Regard The Rose drew post 9 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez for trainer Juan Chavez Ortega. The filly’s nine opponents include Daddys Blushing, a gelded son of Big Daddy Cartel trained by Jackie Riddle for owner Gary W. Hartstack of Houston, Texas. Daddys Blushing is coming off of a 2-year-old season during which he banked $189,321 from six outs, and he scored victories in the 330-yard, $40,000 Sam Houston Juvenile Invitational Stakes in April, and the 350-yard, $393,000 Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs in June.

Daddys Blushing drew post 3 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon.
