He Is The Risingstar Goes For A Barbra B Three Peat

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JANUARY 11, 2018—Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches’ He Is The Risingstar will look for a three peat when he faces six rivals in the $20,000 Barbra B Handicap on Sunday night at Los Alamitos. First post is 5:15 for the nine-race card.

Trained by Paul Jones, the 6-year-old gelding by Mr Jess Perry is perhaps the nation’s top 550-yard Quarter Horse. He’s won five stakes races at this distance since December of 2015, four of those at Los Alamitos.

In addition to his 2016 and 2017 wins in the Barbra B, He Is The Risingstar also won the Paul Ford Handicap at 550 yards in 2015 and 2016. He makes his return to the Orange County oval after spending the bulk of 2017 racing in Texas.

He Is The Risingstar won the TQHA 550-Yard Stakes at Retama Park on July 28 and in his last start he competed in the Refrigerator Handicap at 440 yards. Cesar De Alba will ride the Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm LLC-bred runner. He’ll be going after his sixth win in 15 career starts.

Keith Craigmyle and Paul Lewis’ Thoroughbred sprinter Miss Loujean, a two-time winner at 870 yards at Los Alamitos since November 17, is among the six other runners in the Barbra B.

Miss Loujean had a tremendous 2017 campaign, winning four races, running second in four more and third in one other race, all from only 10 starts. She’s won eight times in 43 career starts. Abigail Kawananakoa’s Racy High Roller, winner of the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity in 2016, will try this distance for the first time in his career when he starts from the outside post seven.

Four other Quarter Horses will also race.
