Historic Rillito Park Offers Saturday Stakes Tripleheader

TUCSON, AZ--MARCH 16, 2018--Three official stakes races will highlight Rillito Park’s nine-race program on Saturday.

El Moro de Cumpas Derby

A full field of eight sophomores, topped by fastest qualifier Pirteville Cartel, has been entered back in Saturday’s 350-yard, $20,500 El Moro de Cumpas Derby.

A sorrel son of the Corona Cartel stallion Flair For Dancing, Pirteville Cartel is trained by Phil Pinedo for owner Hector M. Pinedo. The Arizona-bred colt made his season debut with a two-length victory in the second of two trials on March 3, and he was a finalist in three futurities at Turf Paradise last year.

Pirteville Cartel drew post 5 and will be ridden by Carlos W. Marquez.

El Moro de Cumpas Maturity

Alma Ramos’ I V Gone, a stakes winner in Oklahoma last year, is one of nine sprinters entered back in Saturday’s 400-yard, $20,500 El Moro de Cumpas Maturity.

An 8-year-old gelding by Ivory James, I V Gone earned $20,146 from five outs last year, and his season resume included a wire-to-wire, neck victory as the 11-10 favorite in the 350-yard, $15,000 Golden Driller Stakes at Fair Meadows at Tulsa. I V Gone drew post 4 and will be ridden by Joseph Belloc Jr.

El Moro de Cumpas Sprint Stakes

Askin For Trouble, a 5-year-old son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Onthewingsofglory trained by Pedro Urias Soto for owner Armando Hernandez Muniz, drew post 5 for Saturday’s 350-yard, $15,500 El Moro de Cumpas Sprint Stakes. The gelding has won his last two starts, including the first of two trials on March 3.
