LOS ALAMITOS, CA—APRIL 4, 2018—Led by Reliance Ranches LLC’s Conquering Marie, eight will be in action in the meet’s first race for 2-year-olds on Saturday night at Los Alamitos.
The 300-yard dash is slated as the seventh race on the card. Trained by Mike Robbins, Conquering Marie had the fastest of 49 works on March 20 and the eighth fastest of 23 drills on March 6.
The filly improved nicely from her first work to the next work, traveling 220 yards in :12.20 after working in :12.50 in her first drill. The homebred filly by Coronado Cartel is out of Illegal Fireworks, a graded stakes winner of over $181,000.
This field will also feature Kolleen Ledgerwood’s Legally Hott, a Walk Thru Fire filly, who posted the fastest of 22 drills on March 17. Her time was :12.20 on that morning. Trained by Roberto Dominguez, Legally Hott is from the family of graded stakes winner Bugged Thoughts.
Paul Jones’ Hamilton, who improved nicely from a :12.70 work on March 8 to a :12.30 drill on March 24 is another young runner to watch. The Walk Thru Fire colt’s second dam is Summertime Quickie, who is the mother of AQHA champion Foose and multiple stakes finalist Summertime Favorite.
Stels Thor, a Stel Corona gelding out of the stakes winner Nimble, and Like His Chances, a Foose gelding out of the stakes winner Sweet TR, are among the other 2-year-olds in action. Moon Walker, Respek, and Corona Heir will complete the field.
