HOBBS, NM—SEPTEMBER 17, 2018—Eighty-five 2-year-olds have been entered in Saturday’s 400-yard Hobbs America Futurity (G2) trials, as Zia Park opens its 2018 racing season with a nine-race program, starting at 12 p.m. (MDT).

Trainer Blane Wood, fresh off of his All American Futurity (G1) win at Ruidoso Downs earlier this month, will send out one hopeful, La Feliz Montana Ranch’s Badhabit Jess. A sorrel son of champion Mr Jess Perry, Badhabit Jess is coming off of a seventh-place finish, two lengths behind winner Apocalyptical Jess, in the All American Futurity on September 3.

Badhabit Jess drew post 7 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez in the last of nine trials.

Other contenders for a Hobbs America Futurity berth include stakes winners EM Bodacious Chick and Flying Eagle 07. Trained by Cynthia Gonzalez for owner Eduardo Mendoza, EM Bodacious Chick is coming off of a Ruidoso summer campaign during which she scored a nose victory at odds of 20-1 in the 350-yard, $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile Stakes on June 10.

EM Bodacious Chick drew post 10 and will be ridden by Jaime Leos in the third heat.

Flying Eagle 07 races for Jack Manning from the barn of trainer James J. Gonzales II. Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, the sorrel son of One Famous Eagle has earned $34,249 from seven starts, and his two wins include a half-length victory in the 300-yard, $50,000 West Texas Juvenile Stakes at Sunland Park in April.

Flying Eagle 07 drew post 3 and will be ridden by Felipe Garcia-Luna in the fourth trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the October 7, $300,000-est. Hobbs America Futurity final.
