Fastest Qualifier Apollitical Flying Heads $101,000 Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes On Sunday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—FEBRUARY 15, 2019— Owner Scott Bryant enjoyed some big victories at Los Alamitos last year with 2018 AQHA champion 2-year-old Flash And Roll. The Justin Joiner-trained filly won the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and the Golden State Million on the way to a perfect four-for-four record here.

Bryant and Joiner team up again this Sunday, this time with fastest qualifier Apollitical Flying in the $101,000 Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes for 3-year-olds at 350 yards. Horses had to have been maidens as of December 1, 2018 in order to be eligible for these trials.

Bryant owns the Apollitical Jess gelding in partnership Joe Dee Brooks, Lee Lewis and Derrol Hubbard. Leading rider Jesus Rios Ayala will pilot Apollitical Flying from post number nine. Bred by Rancho El Cabresto, Apollitical Flying won for the first time in the Maiden trials.

"He's (been) a slow learner. It's taking him a few races," Joiner said. "This horse has also had to run against tough horses in Grade 1 futurity trials. The Maiden Stakes is a perfect thing for him. It gave him a place that he fit in nicely."

Cavuto, Miss Montielita and Mayas Signature are among the other top trial winners expected to contend in the final. A full field of 10 will be in action in the Maiden Stakes on Sunday night.
