Alamode And Tac Me Up Among Stakes Winners In Independence Day Handicap

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JULY 2, 2020—Stakes winners Alamode, Tac Me Up, Rite Quick and Ai Babe Foose are among the eight older horses that will be in action in the Grade III, $25,000 Independence Day Handicap at 300 yards on Friday night at Los Alamitos.

First post is 6 p.m. (PDT).

Now owned by Genaro Martinez while still under the tutelage of trainer John Cooper, Alamode has been one of the sharpest older runners this season.

The Kiddy Up gelding won the Mr Jet Moore Handicap on March 31 and since then has posted back-to-back hard-fought second place finishes to older star Chocolatito.

Alamode was second in the Kaweah Bar Handicap on May 2 and second in an allowance event on May 24. He has flashed top speed in all three of those starts and this 300-yard distance should be right up his alley.

Ruth Barbour, Wendy O’Dell and Colten O’Dell’s Tac Me Up won the Cypress Handicap and was third in the Kaweah Bar to Chocolatito and Alamode. Also sired by Kiddy Up, the talented Chris O’Dell trainee has finished in the top three in each of his last six starts.

Another runner to watch is Alberto Rosiles’ Rite Quick, one of the quickest horses on the grounds and a juggernaut at 110-yards. Grade 1 stakes runner-up Red Hawk Cartel and Ali Babe Foose plus Galloping Goodess, Cartel Rocks and My Favorite Legacy will also race.
