Put Me N Coach, Tdz Royal Runaway Rematch in $40,000 Vinton Stakes at Delta Downs

VINTON, LA – MAY 25, 2022 – On the undercard for Saturday’s $331,880 Laddie Futurity, it seems fitting that two of last year’s Laddie Futurity participants will face each other again in the $40,000 Vinton Stakes.

2021 Laddie qualifiers Put Me N Coach and Tdz Royal Runaway will meet five additional Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds in the 400-yard stake.

Put Me N Coach is the 9-5 morning line favorite in the field. The Carters Cartel gelding will make his tenth career start on Saturday in search of his fifth career win.

As a 2-year-old, Put Me N Coach finished third in Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) at Louisiana Downs. In his most recent start, also at Delta, he was third in the Open Me a Corona Stakes (RG2). He is undefeated in two starts at 400 yards.

Delta’s current leading rider Everardo Rodriguez has the call for trainer Ruben Chavez and owner Lorena Morales. He was bred by Shortstop Racing, out of the multiple stakes placed mare Allizoom, by First Prize Perry.

Drawn to his inside is Tdz Royal Runaway, who leads the field by earnings with $142,986 earned in nine career starts.

Tdz Royal Runaway was the third-place finisher in both last year’s Laddie and the Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1).

A homebred for Tony Doughtie, Tdz Royal Runaway is by Sir Runaway Dash and is out of Thequeenhasgonenuts, by Hadtobenuts. Thequeenhasgonenuts, also owned and bred by Doughtie, was the runner up in the 2012 Sam Houston Futurity (G2) and qualified to the Heritage Place Futurity (G1).

David Alvarez, the regular rider for Tdz Royal Runaway, will be in the irons again on Saturday for trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr.

Quid Pro Quo promises to make things interesting from the outside post position. The gelded son of Five Bar Cartel won the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes (RG2) at the Fair Grounds in December and is four for ten lifetime. He qualified to the Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) last year and finished fifth in the Mardi Gras Derby at Louisiana Downs in March.

Josue Huitron trains Quid Pro Quo for owner Jeronimo Silva. He was bred by Gerard Hebert, out of the Tempting Dash mare Jess Tempting to Fly. Heriberto Aguilar-Orozco will ride Quid Pro Quo for the first time.

The Vinton Stakes is Race 7 on Saturday, May 28. Post time is 8:45 pm C.T. The complete lineup, in post position order, with jockeys and morning line odds:

  1. Corona Blues (Luciano Duenez), 12-1
  2. San Lorenzito (Rolando Cabrera), 6-1
  3. Tdz Royal Runaway (David Alvarez), 3-1
