Los Alamitos Equine Fall Mixed Sale Opens With Pair of $75,000 Siblings Sale Toppers

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 3, 2015—Los Alamitos Equine Sale opened their two-day Fall Mixed sale on Saturday with Valeriano Racing Stables, LLC paying $75,000 each for a pair of full-siblings by leading sire Walk Thru Fire .

The average yearling price was down 7.2% from last year’s $17,809 average yearling price, but the 2014 opening session featured a purchase of $200,000 and another one of $175,000. This year’s average is up 20% from the opening session in 2013.

On Saturday, 126 of the 161 yearlings that entered the sale ring were sold for a repurchase rate of only 22%. Gross sales for the 126 yearlings sold were $2,081,400. In addition 12 mares were sold for $155,900 for a solid average of $12,992. Two horses of mixed stock sold for a total of $16,000. The grand total for day one was 140 horses sold for $2,253,300 for an average of $16,095.

The bigger ticket items in this year’s sale could come during day two of the sale. The second day will be headed by Hips #352 (He Too Looks Hot) and #353 (Look At Her), a pair full siblings sired by Walk Thru Fire and out of the award winning broodmare Look Her Over.

Bred by Ed Allred, the two yearlings are full siblings to last year’s Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity winner He Looks Hot. Allred's consignment on Sunday will also include Hip #229 (A Bit Quirky), a Stel Corona filly and a full sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Quirky. Allred also bred Hip #279 (Still Friends) is a filly by Foose and a full sister to Governor’s Cup and El Primero Del Ano Derby winner winner Forget It.

Burns Ranch's consignment for day two will include Hip #250 (Are Those Real), a filly by One Sweet Jess from the family of Dont Dink With Me, Miss Kittys Bar Bet, Ynot Walk and Quirky. Vessels Stallion Farm’s consignment will be headed by Hip #265 (Perrys Getting Down), a half brother to Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity winner One Quick First Down. La Presita LLC has consigned Hip #245 (The Crusador), a colt from the family of 2007 Broodmare of the Year Runaway Wave and 2007 World Champion Blues Girl Too. Lazy E Ranch, Agent for John Andreini, has consigned Hip #228 (Staggering Stride), a half sister to champion millionaire FDD Dynasty, while Vista Equine Colorado, LLC, agent for Cook and Erickson, has consigned Hip #342 (Shall Be Separate) a half-brother to World Champion Last To Fire and stakes finalist Last To Check Him.

In Saturday's opening session Hip 119, Ur My Princess and Hip 139 Trinity Force each brought a final bid of $75,000 from Valeriano Racing Stables. Lazy Creek Ranch, Agent consigned the Walk Thru Fire full siblings to G1 Ed Burke Million Futurity runner-up Fires Blazin ($369,985). The colt and filly are out of the RG3 winning daughter of Chicks A Blazin, Thatsa Blazin Chick ($133,011).

Ron Hartley purchased the First Down Dash colt American Force (Hip 16) from Firth Ranch, Agent for $62,000. The gray colt is out of RG2 finalist American Purse, by Chicks Beduino. She is the dam of six ROM including Rainbow Futurity(G1) finalist Like A Gift ($29,140).

Valeriano Racing Stables, LLC led all buyers in the opening session with the two purchases totaling $150,000. Abigail Kawananakoa paid $85,000 for two head and Ron Hartley had two purchases for $83,000.

Edward C. Allred was the leading consignor and/or agent in the opening session with 25 head grossing $531,500. Burns Ranch, Agent sold 19 head for $496,500 and Lazy Creek Ranch, Agent had three head gross $153,200.

Mr Jess Perry was the leading yearling sale sire (by average with two or more sold) in the opening session with two yearlings averaging $39,500. All-time leading sire First Down Dash had three yearlings average $35,500 and Walk Thru Fire had 21 yearlings average $31,167.

One Dashing Eagle was the leading first-crop yearling sale sire (by average with two or more sold) in the opening session with two head averaging $15,350.

Hard Hitting was the leading covering sire (by average with two or more sold) in the opening session with two in-foal mares averaging $7,000. First crop sire Favorite Cartel had two in-foal mares average $5,350.
