OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—SEPTEMBER 23, 2016—A pair of $70,000 yearlings were the high-sellers on the opening day (Thursday) of the 38th annual Heritage Place September Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City.

"We sold right at 90% of the horses today," Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said Thursday evening. The sale average was down 18% compared to the same day last year." The first session saw 233 head sell for a $2,979,100 gross compared to 233 head in 2015 grossing $3,845,00. Today's opening session average was $12,786 compared to $16,506 in 2015 and the median dropped to $9,000 in 2016 from $10,000 last year.

"We have a great set of horses for the next two days and look forward to a good finish to the sale," Kidney added.

Tyler Graham paid $70,000 for Hip 164, Tres Veces Loco, a Tres Seis colt consigned by Marty Powers, Agent for Erin Knox. Out of the Mr Jess Perry mare You Call It Madness, a half-sister to Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1) winner One Quick First Down.

Hip 259 Eagles Tenaya was the high-selling filly, also for $70,000. Gary Hoovestal purchased the One Famous Eagle half-sister to Grade 3 winner and champion sire Desirio. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for John Andreini consigned the sorrel filly.

Hip 200, Stihl The Won, a half-brother to Grade 1 winner and sire Favorite Cartel was the third high-seller at $61,000. Jose Vicente Contrara Pallivich purchased the Mr Jess Perry colt out of Shenoshercorona, by Corona Cartel, from the Bobby D. Cox.

Ramon Vega was the leading buyer in the opening session with nine head for $140,400. Rachaun Suarez MVZ paid $123,400 for 11 yearlings and the aforementioned Gary Hoovestal had four head for $114,500.

Bobby D. Cox is the first leading consignor or agent with nine had grossing $192,000, Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent had 13 head for $174,400 and Marty Powers Agent had 14 head for $167,400.

Tres Seis was the leading opening day sire (by average with two or more sold) with three head averaging $35,333, Corona Cartel had four head average $32,750 and One Famous Eagle had seven yearlings at $31,071. Hez Our Secret was the leading first crop sale sire (by average with two or more sold) with five yearlings averaging $11,400.
