Winter Mixed Second Session Rallies, Gross Rises 7% Over Two Sessions Last Year

Winter Mixed Second Session Rallies, Gross Rises 7% Over Two Sessions Last Year

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JANUARY 19, 2017—Led by a $300,000 broodmare, the second session of the Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale rallied today (Friday) to gain 7% in gross for the same two-days last year.

"We certainly picked up today (Friday) with the second session average hitting $11,893 on horses sold, an increase of almost 5% over the same day last year," Heritage Place General Manger Spence Kidney said late Friday. "We sold 91% of the horses offered in session two, which is always the reflection of a strong market."

Through two days 493 horses have sold for a $5,104,200 gross compared to $4,805,753 on 480 horses through two days in 2016. The two-day average is $10,353 and median is $6,200.

"We look forward to finishing with a good set of horses tomorrow," Kidney said of Saturday's closing session.

The sale leading buyer through two days Donald Cavenaugh made a big splash when he paid $300,000 for Tres Seis Folszookie, a half-sister to 2018 AQHA Racing Champion 3-Year-Old and 3-Year-Old Gelding Hold Air Hostage. Consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent, the unraced daughter of leading sire Tres Seis sold with a 2018 filly by AQHA Racing Champion Jess Good Candy.

Friday's second high-seller, Hip 326 Roman Solider Cd, was purchased by Josefa for $107,000. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent consigned the Grade 2 stakes winning son of Apollitical Jess from the Dash Ta Fame mare Famous Phoebe.

Dr. Stephen Ralston paid $73,000 for Ride My Wagon, an 8-year-old Grade 3 winning daughter of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon. Charette-Hill Racing, Inc., Agent for Michael Pohl consigned the Valley Junction Futurity(G3) winner out of Shawne Kate by Shawne Bug.

The aforementioned Donald Cavenaugh is the sale's leading buyer through two sessions with 10 head for $590,500. Darling Farms paid $161,000 for seven purchases and Fabian Bustamantes purchased seven head for $153,200.

Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent is the leading consignor or agent through Friday's second session with 50 head grossing $1,087,400. Marty Powers, Agent has 27 head for $247,600 and Bobby D. Cox sold 30 head for $241,400.

Walk Thru Fire is the leading sire of "short yearlings" (by average with two or more sold) with two head averaging $14,600. First sale-crop sire Separate Interest has two for $11,850 and Valiant Hero has two for $11,000. Another first-crop sale sire, Apollitical Blood was fourth with two averaging $10,000.

Undefeated AQHA Racing Champion Jess Good Candy is the sale's leading covering sire (by average with two or more sold) with four in-foal mares averaging $112,500. Valiant Hero has two for $27,000 and FDD Dynasty has three in-foal mares at $22,000.
