LQHBA Yearling Sale Soars to Record Levels, All-Time High Seller Record Broken Twice

KINDER, LA—AUGUST 4, 2018—A pair of record breaking yearling sales helped fuel the just concluded 2018 LQHBA Yearling Sale to record levels across the board this week.

Jess A Fast Rouge, a colt by leading sire Heza Fast Dash, broke the state's high-selling Quarter Horse yearling record on Thursday night for $200,000 and today (Saturday) Moonocracy, a colt by first-crop sale sire Apollitical Blood, busted Thursday night's record when he brought a final bid of $210,000.

Those two big-ticket colts helped push the record setting LQHBA Yearling Sale, to gross receipts of $6,616,100 for 461 horses sold—the highest in the sale's history according to LQHBA officials. The 2018 average of $14,352 was up 21% over last year's $11,877. The median climbed 14% to $8,200 compared to $7,200 only a year ago.

"Once again, this sale has established new records for our Association," LQHBA Executive Director Tony Patterson said Saturday evening. "Congratulations to our buyers, consignors, agents and farms—it is their hard work and commitment that makes this sale so successful. It’s an honor for me to be a part of it," he concluded.

Watson Land & Cattle signed the $210,000 ticket on the all-time sale-topper Hip 589 Moonocracy, a half-brother to RG1 winner Dashnunder Afullmoon, winner of the Lee Berwick Futurity(RG1) and the LQHBA Lassie Futurity in 2017.

The colt by champion Apollitical Blood is out of the stakes winning Dash Ta Fame mare Full Moon Dasher, who is the dam of G2-placed Jen And Vodka and two-time winner N Bee C. Spring Hill Farms, who has bred the last two Lee Berwick Futurity(RG1) winners, is the breeder and consignor of the high-seller Moonocracy.
