Heritage Place Opens A Strong September Yearling Sale Today Against Last Years Record Breaker

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–SEPTEMBER 23, 2022–A pair of $200,000 yearlings tied for the top-selling horse in the first session of the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale today (SEP 23) in Oklahoma City. 

“The yearling market remained strong today, with an average sales price up 6% increase over last year’s record sale average for Day 1 and 92% of the horses offered were sold,” Heritage Place Sale Company General Manager Spence Kidney said late Friday.

A total of 295 yearlings sold through the ring in the opening session for gross receipts of $10,141,700, an average of $34,345 and a median of $25,000. The day 1 gross was slightly down due to 27 more horses selling in last year’s opener. The average price is up 6% over day one last year and the median held steady at $25,000.

Jose Mendoza paid $200,00 for Hip 189, Jess My Dynasty, a colt by three-time world champion sire FDD DynastyLazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Speed, LLC consigned the colt out of the AQHA Dam of Distinction Jess Sass Me by Mr Jess Perry.  Jess My Dynasty is a full or half sibling to 12 blacktype including Champions Jess Walking Thru and Sass Me Blue and stakes winners Jess Being Valiant, Speed Dynasty, Fire And Sass, First N Sassy, Valiant Jess and Sassy On Fire.

Just over an hour later Hip #228, Jess A Rockin Gal, also brought a final bid of $200,000 from Reliance Ranches LLC to tie for Friday’s co-high-seller. Rancho El Cabresto, Inc. consigned the Favorite Cartel sister to champion 2-year-old filly Cartel Jess Rockin winner of the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1). She is out of the Grade 1 winning Feature Mr Jess mare Feature Jess Rockin.

Rancho El Cabresto, Inc. also sold the third co-high-seller Hip 315 AJ Pure Gold, a colt by leading sire Apolitical Jess from the Tres Seis mare Daring Seis. Thomas Wylie purchased AJ Pure Gold who is out of a full-sister to Grade 3 winner Pandorum, the dam of champion Hotstepper, Ruidoso Derby(G1) winner Hotsempting and multiple G1-placed In Hott Pursuit.

Tying for the third-high-seller at $175,000 was Hip 316 Good Prize Corona, a daughter of leading third-crop sire Jess Good Candy consigned by 6666 Ranch Agent for Weetona Stanley. Greg Cullum purchased the half-brother to six blacktype and including Grade 1 winner Cr Tuckernuck.  Fast Prize Corona by Corona Cartel is the dam.

Rachuan Suarez MVZ was Friday’s leading buyer with 12 head grossing $377,500. Johnny Trotter paid $340,000 for 3 head and Jose Mendoza signed the ticket on 4 yearlings for $289,000.

Bobby D. Cox led consignors and agents on day 1 with 17 head for gross receipts of $955,000. Rancho El Cabresto, Inc. sold 8 yearlings for $768,000 and Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock, LLC had 9 yearlings gross $496,000. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent and Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Reliance Ranches, LLC also were in the day’s top ten consignors list.

Apollitical Jess led yearling sires in the first session (by average, with two or more sold) with 16 head averaging $84,250. Jess Good Candy had five yearlings for $64,000 and Mr Jess Perry sold four for a $55,500 average.

Champion Tarzanito was the leading first-crop sale sire on day 1 (by average, with two or more sold) with 3 head averaging $27,833 while Champion Flying Cowboy 123 just missed with 12 yearlings for a $27,333 average.
