Trio Enjoy Allowance Wins Saturday At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—APRIL 23, 2017—John Andreini and Vince Genco’s Hootin For Hotlips was outstanding in her first start since finishing a game fourth in the La Primera Del Ano Derby, as she outdueled five sophomore fillies to win the $11,325 allowance sixth race on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Cruz Mendez and trained by Jose Flores, Hootin For Hotlips was making her first start since facing winner Start Somethin Bad in the La Primera at 400-yards on April 1. Hootin For Hotlips looked sharp in her outing, as she broke swiftly from the outside post number six to win Saturday’s 300-yard dash by a head in a time of :15.651.

A brown filly by Fantastic Corona, Hootin For Hotlips could be in for a nice season in 2017. Fresh after making only three starts during her freshman campaign, Hootin For Hotlips has been highly competitive in all three of her outings this year. In six career starts, the homebred filly has won two races, finished second once and qualified to the La Primera. She’s one to watch.

Racing for the partnership of Rosenberg, Goforth, Kiovstad, et al, Time For Stoli had the time of his life as he flew to the wire to pick up his second career victory.

The Stoli gelding had waiting for a return to the winner’s circle for nearly a year now. He won his career debut back on May 14 and then posted seconds in each of his next three starts.

After a trio of out of the money finishes, Time For Stoli came back with a nice third place finish against allowance foes on March 31, a race that was perhaps a precursor of how well he would perform on Saturday. With Ramon Sanchez in the irons for trainer Charles Treece, Time For Stoli was in control the entire way, posting a ¾ length win while covering the 350 yards in :17.730.

The eighth and final on Saturday night featured the return of Southern California Derby winner Uno Corona Mas in his first start of the year and first since his big victory in the $168,000 derby. However, it was Tell Jess that came away with the honors in this race, as he held off Uno Corona Mas by a neck thanks to a sharp break and a strong finish in the 330-yard dash. The stakes winner One Sweet Jess sired both Tell Jess and Uno Corona Mas.

Bred by Martha Wells, Tell Jess was picking up his fourth victory in 18 career starts. Ruben Lozano rode the winner for trainer Santos Perez. Tell Jess covered the distance in :16.743.
