Cal-Bred Juveniles Set Top Two Marks In Pot O'Gold Trials

KENNEWICK, WA—APRIL 26, 2017—Recking Ball, a 2-year-old daughter of world champion One Dashing Eagle, broke her maiden in her first try on Sunday (Apr. 23) at Sun Downs while posting the fastest qualifying time the 2017 NQHRA Pot O'Gold Futurity.

Ridden by jockey Cesar Franco, the California-bred filly rolled over the 300-yard course in :15.749 seconds to earn a 93-speed index and the top qualifying spot in the May 8th final.

Danny Montes conditions Recking Ball for owner/breeder San Gregorio Racing Stables, Inc. The gray filly is out of the Separatist mare Shrug.

Hanson Racing LLC and Robin Dunn's Kool Odds finished second to Recking Ball and held on to the second fastest time of :15.847 seconds, a 90-speed index.

Mark Hanson saddled the California-bred son of leading third crop sire Favorite Cartel from the Chicks Beduino mare Kool Kue Chick. Eddie Aceves has the riding call on the Steve D. Burns DVM bred colt.

Favorite Cartel was the only sire with multiple finalist also getting Corona B Gone with the 5th fastest time.

Trainer Bill Hoburg and Hector Magallanes saddled two qualifiers each.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the four trial races conducted on Sunday, will return to Sun Downs on Sunday, May 7th to vie for the winner's share of a $30,000-est. purse in the 300-yard event.
