One Famous Sign Steps Up In Gopher State Derby Trials

SHAKOPEE, MN—MAY 27, 2017—One Famous Sign who ran for a $30,000-tag two races back stepped up this afternoon under jockey Brayan Velazquez to get his second career win while posting the top qualifying time for the Gopher State Derby Saturday afternoon at Canterbury Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the three 400 yard trial races conducted, will return to Canterbury Park Saturday, June 10th to vie for the winner's share of a $32,750 purse.

The first of four finalists for trainer Jason Olmstead, One Famous Sign put in a steady effort to defeat Faster Than Hasta by a neck and post the top qualifying time of :20.244 seconds, a 93 speed index into a 10 mph crosswind.

One Famous Sign, a colt by leading sire One Famous Eagle, races for owner Tom Maher. The Mixer Ranch bred the bay in Oklahoma from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare First Painted Sign. He has earned, $17,411.

Under jockey Justin Shepherd, La Mos Pyc ducked in at the gap but recovered to run down Corona Springs by a neck while posting the second fastest qualifying mark of :20.292, a 91 speed index into a 10 mph crosswind.

Lori Harris conditions the stakes-placed son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon for owner Thomas J. Scheckel. It was the fourth win nine starts for the bay filly out of La Mos Chingono, by Heza Fast Dash. She has earned $25,220.

Scheckel owns for this year's Gopher State Derby finalists.
