TULSA, OK—JUNE 18, 2017—A familiar face went gate to wire in the $17,500 Golden Driller as last year’s winner, I V Gone, returned for back-to-back victories in the 350-yard feature race on the Fair Meadows Sunday night card. I V Gone ($4.20) and jockey Cody Wainscott finished in 17.554 to earn a 95 speed index.
The oldest horse in the field, 7-year-old I V Gone made his fifth straight stakes appearance Sunday night in a campaign that included a third-place finish two starts back in the Eastex Stakes (G2) behind Bodacious Eagle and The Fiscal Cliff. I V Gone is trained by Leonardo Reza for owner Celesse Fregoso.
I V Gone was bred in Oklahoma by L P Frank, by Ivory James out of the Takin On the Cash mare Bye Bye Bygones. The gelding has won 11 of his 40 lifetime starts and has earned over $181,000.
Sexy and I Know It B, a 5-year-old gray gelding by Apollitical Jess, finished second by a neck after breaking out at the start of the race. The second-choice among the betting public, Sexy and I Know It B entered the Golden Driller for trainer Miguel Banuelos and owner Green D Ranch LLC. Jesus Salazar had the call.
Sexy and I Know It B was bred in Oklahoma by Bielau Oaks; like I V Gone, he is also out of a Takin on the Cash mare, Sheza Lilbituino.
V Power and Paul Nieto finished third for trainer Dustin Cox and owner CoCoMo Racing, LLC. Bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith, V Power is by Valiant Hero and is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Ferrari Fast Prize.
The 3-year-old gelding was second in the Jack Brooks Stakes earlier this year at Remington and was the fifth-place finisher in the 2016 Heritage Place Futurity (G1).
Completing the field were Corona Senator, Dancing Capo Decapi and Olde Monee.
