AURORA, CO—JULY 15, 2017—Fastest qualifier Indomable Cartel drew clear under jockey Fernando Fonseca-Soto to defeat Shining Bianca by 1-¾ lengths in the $74,680 Cherry Creek Futurity Saturday afternoon at Arapahoe Park. Its A Blackjack finished a head back in third.

"I was pretty surprised he broke that fast," Fonseca-Soto said. "But after he broke in front, I was pretty excited that we were going to make it to the finish line like that, and that’s how he did it."

Saddled by trainer Luz Chavira, Indomable Cartel completed the 330 yards in :17.006 seconds, an 89-speed index into a 4-mph headwind, to pick up the winners' purse of $28,872.

The 2-year-old son of leading third crop sire The Louisiana Cartel races for owner Mariano Cornejo. Francisco Cornejo bred the colt in Colorado from the Wave Carver mare Tahiti Wave. He broke his maiden in the June 30th trials to get his first win after making two starts in Oklahoma earlier this year. Indomable Cartel has banked $33,661.

Shinning Bianca put in a big effort from the outside post under jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr. to finish second. Jose Manuel Barron trains the daughter of first crop sire One Handsome Man for owner/breeder Hugo Barron Sierra. Out of the Tres Seis mare Seis Star Glitter, the sorrel filly earned $14,936 for her effort.

Levings Racing LLC's Its A Blackjack picked up $8,962 for his third-place finish after breaking out and bumping at the start. John Hammes conditions the Jet Black Patriot colt with Stormy Smith getting the riding call. George Seward bred Its A Blackjack from the Streakin La Jolla mare Alluring Streak.

Comandeered, Shine Your Wagon, Whom, Aftershock, Jettin Ben, Yousa Good Girl and Coronafordenim completed the futurity field.
