California Invader Elicity Wins $100,000 Corona Cartel Stakes

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 22, 2017—West coast invader Elicity stepped up Saturday when she defeated Bells Big Hero by half-a-length in the $100,000 Corona Cartel at Ruidoso Downs. Revengerr finished 1-¼ lengths back in the show position.

The Corona Cartel field were preferred invites with the second 10 fastest times from the Rainbow Derby(G1) trials on July 9th.

Coming off an Allowance win at Los Alamitos race Course in May, Elicity entered the Corona Cartel off a second-place effort in the in the Rainbow Derby trials when she just missed the win by a neck.

Saddled by trainer Juan Aleman, and ridden by champion jockey Cody Jensen, the daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess completed the 440 yards in :21.706 seconds into a 5-mph headwind to pick up the winner's share of the purse worth $42,000.

"She ran great, " said Jensen after his first ride aboard Elicity.

"I was thrilled when my agent (Donnie Stewart) told me that we could pick her up. All I’ve done on her before the race was stand her in the gate."

Owned by Papas Place LLC, the sorrel filly ventured to Ruidoso Downs last summer for the Rainbow and All American Futurity trials where her best finish was second twice. She did qualify to the $100,000 All American Juvenile.

Bred in Utah by Robert Williams, from the Grade 1 winning Walk Thru Fire mare Flame N Flash, Elicity has compiled a (10) 3-4-1 record and banked $72,315.

Oklahoma-bred Bells Big Hero put in a game effort under jockey Agustin Silva to finish second. Clinton Crawford conditions the Valiant Hero gelding for owner Gregory Cullum. Terry Bell Estate bred last year's Oklahoma Horsemen's Mystery Futurity winner from the Bigtime Favorite mare Jess Big Time. The $18,000 second-place check boosted the brown geldings earnings total to $119,748.

The $40,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling won his Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Derby trial and then was second by one-half length in the $62,000 Mr Master Bug Handicap at Remington Park behind Tough To Bee, who finished in a dead heat for the win in the Grade 1, $800,000 Ruidoso Derby.

Trainer Toby Keeton saddled third-place finisher Revengerr for owners Tyler Graham and Adame Racing, LLC. Giambi Stables LLC bred the First Moonflash gelding in New Mexico from the Corona Cartel mare Jess A Cartel. Revengerr earned $10,000 for the effort.

The $100,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase, won his maiden just two starts ago and then stepped up for a second-place run behind Hold Air Hostage in his Rainbow Derby trial.

Eyesa Texan, B D Illusion, Lethal Class, Famously Blue, Paint My Pilot, Beaus Famous and Wild Mothers Milk completed the field.
