RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 29, 2017—The $50,000 By By JJ and the $20,000 Bobby Dan Crenshaw Memorial joined the $59,850 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge during a stakes tripleheader on Saturday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

George and Perry Cobb’s homebred Apollitical Approach was awarded the win in the John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge through a disqualification (see related story).

By By JJ Invitational

The By By JJ, for two-year-old New Mexico-breds, was run over 400 yards with Bob and Sissie McClure’s homebred Nolans Theory getting up at the last moment to get the win over Miss Woody James, owned by Joe Dee Brooks, Ted Rushing and R. Lee Lewis.

Overlooked at 11-1 odds, Nolans Theory will enjoy longer distances after rallying for the nose win. The gelding was timed in :20.375 under jockey Raul Ramirez Jr.

Miss Woody James finished one-half length ahead of third-place finisher Siximoons, owned by Jerry Bailey and Tres Mesa Horses, LLC.

The Harvey Baeza-trained Nolans Theory was sent off at double-digit odds even though he won his maiden two starts ago and was in a strong Zia Futurity trial, finishing fourth.

A $20,000 Ruidoso yearling repurchase sired by Chicks Regard, Nolans Theory has now earned more than $26,000. He is out of Shez Classy Now by Now I Know.

Runner-up Miss Woody James, a daughter of Jesse James Jr from the Woodbridge mare Woodys Allstar, is conditioned by trainer Michael Joiner and was ridden by champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. Also a homebred, she earned $9,000 for the effort.

Siximoons finished a half-length back in third-place for owners Jerry Bailey and Tres Mesa Horses. Mike Abraham bred the First Moonflash gelding from the Jumpn mare Stevie Six. Ridden by Salvador Martinez Siximoons picked up $5,000 for third. Wesley Giles is the trainer.

Flashy Tres, You And Eye, Exs And Oohs, Zully Dragon Gal, Dan The Flashman, Jess Moonflash and Greased Up completed the field.

Bobby Dan Crenshaw Memorial

In the Bobby Dan Crenshaw Memorial at 1,000 yards for thoroughbreds and quarter horses, the quarter horse Jess A Hilbily Bone raced more like a thoroughbred than a quarter horse with his late-running victory.

Sent off as the 2-5 favorite, Rockin J Running Horses’ homebred Jess A Hilbily Bone settled off the pace starting from the second postposition.

Trubador Dan opened up a daylight lead and led the field around the turn. The Tammy Kay Johnson-trained Jess A Hilbily Bone saved ground along the rail and then pulled to the outside in the stretch to get up for the neck win. Sherree Meridyth’s Thoroughbred I Have No Clue rallied to finish a game second. Pacesetter Trubador Dan held on for third, another two-and-one-quarter lengths back.

The Bentio Jude Baca-ridden Jess A Hilbily Bone was timed in :53.440.

Jess A Hilbily Bone, a six-year-old gelding by Rock Solid Jess, earned his odds-on favoritism by winning the $50,000 Remington Park Distance Championship at 870 yards two starts back. He was third in the AQHA Albuquerque Downs Distance Challenge six days ago.

The homebred out of Imaginiff by Game Patriot earned $12,000 in the Bobby Dan Crenshaw to boost his career mark to $137,545.
