Munckin Wins Alberta Stallion Stakes

EDMONTON, ALB—AUGUST 19, 2017—Munckin, a son of Special Fly Bye, rallied late to beat Bringit Like Benny by a head in the $20,141(US) Alberta Stallion Stakes Saturday afternoon at Northlands Park.

Ridden by jockey Jose Rocha, Munckin completed the 330 yards in :17.149 seconds with a 10 mph tailwind. It was the third win in 14 starts for the 3-year-old and the $9,155(US) winners' purse boosted his career mark $23,200.

Buckey Stockwell saddled the son of Special Fly Bye for owner WestWind Oilfield Services. William Leech bred the sorrel gelding from the Dashing Cleat mare Cleats Rockette.

Runner-up Bringit Like Benny also rallied but couldn't get to the wire first and had to settle for the second place paycheck worth $3,458(US). Roman Gonzalez had the riding assignment aboard the son of Promised Class for owners Barry and Janice Sather. Janice trains their homebred from the Dash To Chivato mare Keep On Keepin On.

Pros Ranger, owned-trained and bred by Donalda Cochrane finished another neck back in the blanket finish for third. Also, a son of Promised Class, the 3-year-old was ridden by Freddy Fuentes. Out of the Class Project mare Baileys On Ice, Pros Ranger picked up $2,035(US) for his effort.

Completing the official order of finish were Make Er Out, League Of Ivory Bugs, O First Flash, Ivory Lady League, Reds On Fire and Brooksbubblincerveza.
