Stablemates Marys Paintyourwagon and Damn Straight Set Top Times For Iowa Double Gold Derby

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 19, 2017—Mary Paintyourwagon, runner-up in the Iowa Double Gold Futurity last year, raced to a neck win over stablemate Damn Strait to set the fastest qualifying time for the Iowa Gold Derby Saturday at Prairie Meadows.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Iowa racetrack on Saturday, September 2nd to vie for the winners' share of a $85,000-est. purse going 400 yards.

Jockey Stormy Smith had the riding assignment aboard Mary Paintyourwagon for trainer Stacy Charette-Hill. The daughter of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon completed the 400 yards in :19.722 seconds, to register the fastest qualifying time.

Leann Burns owns the Oklahoma-bred filly out of Marys Southernpolicy by Shazoom. Bred by Michael Pohl the brown filly has compiled a (13) 5-1-1 record and banked $70,989.

Damn Strait, a Dominyun gelding racing for M.C. Stucks, held on for the second fastest time of :19.800 seconds. Also trained by Charette-Hill, jockey Jorge Torres had the riding call.

Bobby D. Cox bred the graded stakes-placed gelding from Hottesticketintown by Jody O Toole.
