Lil Black Wagon Impresses in Iowa Stallion QH Futurity Trials

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 20, 2017—Making just his second career start Lil Black Wagon broke his maiden in an impressive 1-˝ length win Sunday at Prairie Meadows to set the fastest qualifying time for the $91,800-est. Iowa Stallion QH Futurity.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trial races conducted, will return on Sunday, September 3rd to vie for the winner's share of the purse going 350 yards.

Ridden by jockey Jorge Torres, Lil Black Wagon completed the 350-yard task in :17.878 seconds, with a 5-mph tailwind, to record the top qualifying time.

Stacy Charette Hill conditions the son of second crop sire Lil Kool Wagon for owners Michael Pohl and Bob Urich. In his only other start, Lil Black Wagon finished off-the-board in a maiden effort at Remington Park.

Urich bred the black colt from the Special Legend mare Ru Special.

Sweet Twisted Tea broke his maiden in this fifth career start in the second trial to get the second fastest time of :18.003 seconds. The son of multiple stakes sire Sweet First Down was the first of four finalists saddled by trainer Jason Olmstead.

Berkley Packer rode the gray gelding to nose win over Shake It For Deb for owner/breeder Richard Tobin. Sweet Twisted Tea is out of the Corona Cartel mare Dashing On The Moon. He has compiled (5) 1-1-1 record and banked $11,852 this season.

Sweet First Down got four qualifiers and Lil Kool Wagon sired three finalists to the futurity final.

Trainer Regina Wessels joined Olmstead with multiple qualifiers getting two.

The Iowa QH Stallion Derby final will also be contested on September 3rd. According to Prairie Meadows Racing Secretary Chad Keller, 11 horses were nominated through the last payment and track officials made the decision to run an 11-horse field in the $52,834-est. final instead of having time trials to eliminate one horse.
