Mamasito Magic Wins $50,000 Balloon City Stakes

Mamasito Magic Wins $50,000 Balloon City Stakes

ALBUQUERQUE, NMóSEPTEMBER 10, 2017óMaking her first-ever start in New Mexico, Ramon Trejoís Mamasito Magic sprinted to a half-length victory in Sundayís $50,000 Balloon City Stakes for Quarter Horse fillies and mares at Albuquerque Downs.

Mamasito Magic went 400 yards in :19.188 while earning her first career stakes win and a 101-speed index. Agustin Silva rode the 4-year-old daughter of the Corona Cartel stallion Pappasito for trainer Jesus Carrete, the meetís leading Quarter Horse trainer through its first 46 days.

Mamasito Magic was bred in Oklahoma by Fourteen Ranch Inc., and she shipped in from her home state, where she won two races against claiming company during the 2016 Remington Park meet and was a finalist in last yearís $64,000 Oklahoma Horsemenís Association Mystery Derby (R) at Will Rogers Downs.

"Iíve known Jesus for a long time, and heís a good trainer," said Trejo. "I was confident that this mare would do well here."

Mamasito Magic has won four of 16 starts, and the $30,000 winnerís share of the Balloon City Stakes purse pushed her bankroll to $73,189. She is out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Ms Optical Illusion.

The complexion of the Balloon City Stakes changed a bit when Alis Jumpn, the 6-5 favorite at the time, broke through the gate prior to the start and was scratched by track stewards on advice of the track veterinarian.

BF Fooserageou, a 4-year-old Foose filly, finished second for owner Kevin Birrell and trainer Wesley Giles. The Birrell Farms' Utah-bred is out of Bf Outrageous by Proudest Effort. Ridden by Salvador Martinez she banked $10,000 for the effort.

Trainer Carlos Acosta Jr., saddled third-place finisher Easily Bono, a Florida-bred daughter of Bono Jazz from the Apollo (TB) mare Easy Launch. Tanner Thedford was aboard for owner Christian Dominguez-Olivas. Bred by Flying Fisch Farm Inc., Easily Bono earned $5,000.

Wild Mares Milk, Ratifys Egyptianking, Memphis D Nasty, Pilota On Fire, and Daddy Queen Cartel completed the field.
