As And Js Steps Up In OHA Mystery Derby to Get First Win of Season

CLAREMORE, OK—NOVEMBER 11, 2017—Five Puig Racing LLC's As And Js got her first win in over a year following an impressive one-length effort over Pv Eye Desire in the $76,228 Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Derby Saturday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs. Fastest qualifier Jc Wild Rose finished a neck back in third.

Ridden by jockey Cesar Gomez, As And Js got the first call and never looked back as he completed the 350 yards in :17.549 seconds to earn a 95-speed index into a 13-mph crosswind.

It was the first win for the daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess since she scored in the Black Gold 350 Futurity Champions September 10, 2016 at Will Rogers Downs.

Owned-and-trained by Leonardo Alcala the bay filly pocketed $30,991 to boost her bank account to more than $307,000. With a (12) 3-5-1 record As And Js was also second in the Retama Park Derby(G3) and third in the Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Derby(RG3) this year.

Runner-up Pv Eye Desire Candy put in his best effort since finished second in the Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational last year at Remington Park. Jockey Omar Reyes rode the Desirio gelding for trainer Clinton Crawford.

Gordon Pevehouse is the owner/breeders of the Oklahoma-bred gelding out of Eye On The Candy by Mr Eye Opener. Today's $14,421 payday pushed his earning to $84,608.

Jc Wild Rose, winner of the Will Rogers Derby Challenge three races back picked up $9,447 for third. Carlos Ruiz trains the Apollitical Jess filly for owner-breeder Jose Cervantes.

Jockey Mario Delgado had the riding call aboard the sorrel filly out of Oh Cherokee Rose by Stoli. She has earned $103,829.

Mary Paintyourwagon, Jessie Marie, Royal Desirio, Knockemout Capi, Mighty Tamale and Effortless Chic Desi completed the field.
