Bully Pulpit Starts 3-Year-Old Season As Top Qualifier For Speedhorse Graham Derby At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK--MARCH 11, 2018--Bully Pulpit won a pair of futurities at Remington Park in 2017 as a 2-year-old.

He began his 3-year-old campaign Sunday with a trial victory that was the fastest in qualifying heats for the Grade 1, $68,500 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby. A winner of the American Paint Classic Futurity and the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity in Oklahoma City last year, Bully Pulpit put himself in position for a derby score on Sunday.

Owned by Dan and Kaye Jones of Kemp, Texas and trained by Matt Whitekiller, Bully Pulpit handled his 350-yard trial in :17.458 over a fast track. Ridden by Cody Smith, Bully Pulpit beat DTL Samureye by a neck in the second of two trials.

Bully Pulpit is a 3-year-old Paint gelding by CRM Livewire from the Apollo (TB) mare Judys Apollo. He was bred in Oklahoma by Chuck Bowlan.

Whitekiller also saddled DCM Furyofthestorm and is the only trainer with two qualifiers for the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby.

The 2018 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park continues Thursday thru Sunday, March 15-18. The first race is at 6pm nightly, except for Sunday afternoon, when the action starts at 1:30pm. All times are Central.
