Em Bodacious Chick Breaks Maiden in $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JUNE 10, 2018—On Sunday’s undercard, Eduardo Mendoza Jr.’s Em Bodacious Chick won the $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile, for two-year-olds who did not qualify for the Ruidoso Futurity.

Em Bodacious Chick, a 20-1 longshot, jumped to the lead in the 350-yard race and then steadily veered outward while ahead of her rivals. She crossed the finish line a nose ahead of Our Favorite Sweet and Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG2) winner Lynnder 16, a $30,000 supplemental nominee to enter the trials, finished third.

Our Favorite Sweet was three quarters of a length ahead of Lynnder 16, the 7-10 favorite.

Em Bodacious Chick was timed in :18.124 seconds under Jaime Parga Leos.

A daughter of Bodacious Dash, Em Bodcious Chick won her maiden in her sixth start while taking the Juvenile. The Cynthia Gonzalez-trained Em Bodacious Chick was fifth in the $50,000 West Texas Juvenile and then second in her Ruidoso Futurity trial under Francisco Calderon.

Greg Creager bred the bay filly in New Mexico from the Chicks Beduino mare Californias Chick. He has compiled a (5) 1-1-1 record and banked $48,000 this year.

Gary Hartstack’s Our Favorite Sweet, a $27,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase, was second behind West Texas Futurity winner Suze Returns in their Ruidoso Futurity trial. He has two runner-up efforts in his latest two starts.

Trainer Jackie Riddle conditions the royally bred son of multiple stakes sire Favorite Cartel from the First Down mare One Sweet Dash.

Jockey Francisco Calderon had the riding assignment aboard the half-brother to world champion and multiple stakes sire One Dashing Eagle and Grade 1 winner and multiple stakes sire One Sweet Jess. Bred in Arizona by Allred Brothers Ranch LLC, Our Favorite Sweet earned $18,000 for his Juvenile effort.

After a rough trip at the start the nation's #1 2-year-old filly Lynnder 16 was forced to alter course but still finished third. Tom Maher and Dick Tobin own the daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Corona Cartel mare Tinys Corona Queen.

After winning the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG2) in April her connections paid the penalty to get her into the Ruidoso Futurity trials on May 25. The gutsy filly was an impressive three-quarter length winner in the trials but the 17 mph headwind pushed her time into the Juvenile. She has won three-of-four starts and banked nearly $370,000 this year. Jim and Marilyn Helzer are the breeder.

Christian Esqueda rode Lynnder 16 for trainer Jason Olmstead.

Sooner Cartel, who started the trouble at the gate, was disqualified from ninth and placed 10th.

Completing the official order were Contemp, Konstant, Rustys Miracle, Longgone Perry, Pamplonna, Mr Corona Sixpak and Sooner Cartel
