AURORA, CO—JULY 14, 2018—Moshi Yoshi, a slight 8-1 upset, defeated Pilots Note by half-a-length to win the $79,065 Cherry Creek Futurity Saturday afternoon at Arapahoe Park. Capos Sassy Laaydee finished a nose back in third.
Under jockey Jose Lopez, Moshi Yoshi completed the 330 yards in :17.202 seconds into a 5 mph headwind, to extend her record to a perfect 2-for-2. The winners' purse valued a $31,626 brought the filly's earnings total to $3,546.
Trainer Manuel Orozco saddled the Colorado-homebred for owner-breeder Dana Yoshida-Orozco. The 2-year-old daughter of multiple stake sire Pool is out of Mairis Money Maker by Pool. Moshi Yoshi entered the Cheery Creek final off the fifth-fastest qualifying time after breaking her maiden in the trials June 29.

Capos Sassy Laaydee, another longshot at 23-1, was in tight quarters early but finished third for owner Alexander Orozco. Also trained-and-bred by Manuel Orozco, the brown filly is by multiple stakes sire Capo de Capi from the Dash To Chivato mare Royaldashlaaydee. Ridden by jockey Luis Guerrero, Capos Sassy Laaydee earned $9,488 for her effort.
Moshi Yoshi returned a $16.40 to win, $7 to place and $6.20 to show. Pilots Note paid $13 to place and $6.40 to show while Capos Sassy Laaydee returned $14.40 to show. The 2-3-6 $2 Trifecta returned $569 while the $2 Superfecta paid $1,046.20.
Bf Classy James, Chendo Boy, Groupie Doll, Shmack Daddy Acklam, Jess Un Seis Mas, Best Regards For You and Sheilas First Corona completed the field.
