Granita Cartel Sets New Track Record in Taca de Prata Final

SOROCABA,SP BRZ—SEPTEMBER 20, 2018—On September 15, Erico Braga’s Granita Cartel set a track record in the Taca de Prata Final at Jockey Club de Sorocaba.

The 3-year-old mare covered the 330 yard race in :16.280 to win the R$80,000 race, which is equivalent to approximately $19,500(US).

The mare is sired by Granite Lake and is out of the Corona Cartel mare Coronita Cartel, who is a sister to leading sires Pyc Paint Your Wagon and Ivory James.

Finishing second in the stakes was Fly Foal Seis, with Zoe Vista third.

Brazilian racing continues to step up its efforts to match racing integrity measures around the world. For the first time, the top three finishers of the race will have testing sent to UC-Davis in the United States to be testing.

This effort is just an example of the work the Jockey Club of Sorocaba is doing to ensure clean sport in Quarter Horse racing. These efforts are supported by Dr. Thomas Wolf, the president of the Veterinarian Commission to the Olympic Games held in Brazil in 2016, and also the Brazilian representative for the FEI (Federation Equestrian International).
