Totally Free Has Fastest Remington Park Valentine’s Day Training Race

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—FEBRUARY 14, 2019—Totally Free posted the fastest training race effort on Thursday at Remington Park, covering 250 yards over a fast track in :16.653, during the fourth of nine events.

Owned and bred in Oklahoma by Reliance Ranches of Guthrie, Okla., Totally Free is trained by Mike Robbins and was handled in her training score by jockey Stormy Smith.

A 2-year-old filly by second-crop sire Coronado Cartel from the Mr Jess Perry mare Tan Thin And Rich, Totally Free broke well and was hustled to the lead by Smith. She drifted in slightly over the final yards but still managed to win by three-quarters of a length. The second dam is the grade 2 winning daughter of Corona Cartel, Corona Music. This is family of grade 1-placed Fire And Corona.

Samuel Valdivia saddled Jay Number 7 to the second fastest clocking of :13.655. The son of second-crop sire Im A Fancy Pyc is owned by Dustin Cox of Duncan, Oklahoma. Jay Number 7 moved to front easily in the final race to win by one-length. He out of the My First Moon mare First Ginlark.

Im A Fancy Pyc won the 2014 Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity for Cox.

Reliance Ranches was the only owner on Thursday's card with duel winners, also getting Aj Winzet, a colt by leading sire Apollitical Jess, in Race 5, who posted the fourth fastest time of :13.69.

Robbins and Valdivia each had two winners. Other trainers saddling winners Thursday were Eddie D. Willis, Eddie Lee Willis, Jeff Dean, Megan Marsh and Ruben Soto.

Apollitical Jess, Coronado Cartel and Dominyun sired two winners each on the training card. Other sires with winners were FDD Dynasty, and Royal Quick Flash.

Thursday’s training races were conducted under mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-60s. The light westerly wind was at 10mph and a rare crosswind at Remington Park for the first five races, before turning and becoming a tailwind out of the north for the final events.

Remington Park training races will continue to provide pre-season opportunities to 2-year-olds with the next set of events set for Wednesday, Feb. 20.

The 2019 Remington Park Quarter Horse season begins Friday, March 8, and continues for 50 dates, through Saturday, June 1.
