Our Lady Wagon Pulls Off Minor Upset In Allowance Feature Race

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 14, 2019—One horse had qualified for last year’s $3 million All American Futurity and another horse had run second in the $750,000 Ruidoso Derby in 2018, but in the end, it was a horse that had never even run in stakes company that prevailed in Sunday’s featured allowance race at Remington Park – Our Lady Wagon.

It didn’t matter to the 4-year-old mare from the barn of trainer Stacy Charette-Hill that she was running against such class horses. This daughter of Pyc Paint Your Wagon, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Little Kool Barbie, just jumped out of the gate on top and never was headed to win this $30,650 allowance race by a head at 6-1 odds.

Jockey Jorge Torres was up for Charette-Hill and owner Kent Jackson of Elk City, Okla.

The All American Futurity finalist, Wokatee On Fire, only beat two horses in a field of nine. He had also beaten Lynnder 16 in winning his All American trial. Lynnder 16 had won the $864,000 Remington Park Futurity in the spring of 2018.

Cartel Cupid had run second in the Ruidoso Derby in New Mexico, but could do no better than third against Sunday’s feature winner, Our Lady Wagon. Painted Clouds, at 2-1 odds, finished second, a full length ahead of Cartel Cupid, the 9-5 wagering favorite.

Our Lady Wagon earned $17,584 for the victory and boosted her lifetime bankroll to $48,581. Her record now is 10 starts, three wins, two seconds and no thirds. Running time for the winner was 19.929 seconds for the 400 yards over a fast track, good enough to garner an 85 speed index. She was bred in Oklahoma by Michael Pohl.

She paid $15.80 to win, $7.80 to place and $3.80 to show across the board.
