Owner Bobby Cox Caps Off Big Night with Hawkeye Win In Harris County Stakes

HOUSTON, TX—APRIL 20, 2019—AQHA leading breeder Bobby D. Cox capped off a big night of racing that saw two of his Texas homebred 2-year-olds qualify for the $104,705 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs just about the sametime he won the $15,000 Harris County Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park with Hawkeye.

Ridden by jockey Victor Urieta, Jr., Hawkeye drew clear late to win the 550 yards Harris County by 3-¾ lengths. The son of world champion One Dashing Eagle completed the distance in :27.323 seconds, earning 105 speed index into a 6 mph headwind.

Trainer Jose Ponce conditions the 4-year-old gelding to his fifth career win. The $9,000 winner's purse boosted his bankroll to $177,835. Out of Cox's Runaway Winner mare No Fees, Hawkeye is a multiple grade 1 finalist including the All American Futurity(G1) at 2 and the Rainbow Derby(G1) at 3.

Mary Thompson's homebred Onefamousstreakinash chased throughout to pick up $3,000 for second. Jose Martinez was aboard the One Famous Brioni gelding for trainer Leon Bard. Out of the Game Patriot mare Matchmystreakinash, the 3-year-old has earned $10,981 in seven career starts.

Jettin Feature finished three-quarter back to earn $1,650 for third. Trainer Arturo Garcia saddled the Cartels Feature 4-year-old for owner Edwin Ibarra. Patrick Easter bred the gelding in Michigan from the Feature Mr Jess mare Feature Me Jettin. Manuel Miranda was up.

Th Thomas Leo, Frisco Jess, Love Ta Zoom, Buddy Boy Bok and Jrs Callas First completed the field.
