Eye Eye Captain wins the Bob Moore Memorial Stakes on Saturday, April 20 at Remington Park, from the far outside post-position 12 under jockey Rolando Raudales.

Through the first seven weeks of racing of the 2019 Remington Park American Quarter Horse Season, no horses had won a race from the far outside post position 12. On Saturday night, Eye Eye Captain broke a hex that had grown to an 0-for-48 mark for horses appearing on the far outside.

The 5-year-old gray mare, owned and bred by David Clonts of Broken Arrow, Okla., took down the $56,400 Bob Moore Memorial Stakes, winning by a half-length at odds that signified the value of drawing the 12-post. She went off at 31-1 odds, an indication of how the public felt about the chances of winning from the western frontier of post positions.

Jockey Rolando Raudales closed out the night with his second win on the card and made the toteboard light up like a pinball machine. Eye Eye Captain paid $64 to win, $28 to place and $11.20 to show on a night when longshots shone brightly. Her running time for the 300 yards was 15.387 seconds on a fast track for a speed index of 91.

"She just needed to break because I knew she could run," said Raudales. "Yeah, we broke the jinx."

It must have played on the public's mind because this Captain Courage mare had run first or second in 14-of-27 starts for $107,195. She had already proven she could be a factor, even in stakes-company. Eye Eye Captain had scored a 99 speed index twice last year at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., winning an allowance race and running second in a stakes race there last fall. She won a stakes race last summer at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, Okla.

Trainer Guillermo Valdivia worked his magic, conditioning this mare, out of a Mr Eye Opener mare, Eye My Alexis. The winner was bred in Oklahoma by the owner.

"She's a nice mare. She had some trouble earlier this year," Clonts said, referring to her last two races when she was in a bit tight at the start and bounced back to ninth place in the Mighty Deck Three Stakes at Remington in her 2019 debut, and then bearing out in the Decketta Stakes in her subsequent run at this Oklahoma City track.

Valdivia never gave up on her.

"I'm so happy," he said. "These are good guys to work for and I have a good feeling. She's a good mare." Eye Eye Captain's record is now 28 starts, six wins, nine seconds, and three thirds for lifetime earnings of $141,617.

Thomas Scheckel's Painted Dynasty picked up $11,471 for her second-place effort. Trainer Jason Olmstead conditions the FDD Dynasty mare out of Tygers Painted Girl by Pyc Paint Your Wagon. The stakes winner has banked almost $111,000. Michael Teel is the breeder.

Kowboy Jim, also by world champion FDD Dynasty, picked up $5,431, after moving up to third. A stakes winning homebred for owner-trainer Dean Frey, Kowboy Jim was ridden by jockey Berkley Packer. The California-bred earner of $170,459 is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Counting On You.

Completing the official order of finish were Siximoons, Born To B Bad, Despain Gl, The Polar Vortex, Long Wagon Ho, Tommy The Train, Percyjones, Peight Your Fate and Pv Queen Bee Candy.
