Fancy Pants Dc Stays Undefeated After Two Starts, Winning The Laico Bird Stakes At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 20, 2019—It’s early, but Fancy Pants DC may never lose a race. On March 6, this 2-year-old gelding won a training race at Remington Park, followed by a win in maiden company on March 23. Now he is a stakes winner for the first time, taking the $73,000 Laico Bird Stakes at Remington Park on Saturday night in his initial attempt at this class level.

The sky appears to be the limit with this son of second-crop sire and Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG3) winner Im A Fancy Pyc, out of the Corona Cartel mare DC Cartel.

He is now officially two-for-two and after earning $40,800 in the Laico Bird Stakes, he has pocketed $54,640 for owner Shelley Goodnight of Park Hill, Okla. Trainer Bill Goodnight gave a leg up to jockey Cody Smith and the rider pressed on the gas, moving from fourth to first in 16.895 seconds over a fast track to earn a speed index of 87 in the win.

Fancy Pants DC went off at 2-1 odds, and finished just a neck ahead of Pepper Ryan, the 6-5 favorite. The runner-up was another nose in front of third-place runner Barbie Tales. Fancy Pants DC was bred in Oklahoma by the owner.

He paid $6.60 to win, $3.20 to place and $2.60 to show.

Royally-bred Pepper Ryan races for owner William E. Smith and Ky Luddington. M. Heath Taylor trains the One Dashing Eagle gelding out of grade 2 placed Itea by Corona Cartel. Second in the Oklahoma Futurity(G2) in his last start, Pepper Ryan has banked $85,761 in three starts this year. William Smith is also the breeder.

Barbie Tales, a filly by first-crop sire Wagon Tales, is owned-and-trained by Stacy Charette-Hill. Michael Pohl bred the 2-year-old from the Mr Jess Perry mare Little Kool Barbie. Ridden by Jorge Torres, Barbie Tales picked up $6,930 for her effort.

Tres Of Hero, Clean Brew, Ew Train On Fire, Latuda, Juanells, High Rate Of Desire and Ritas Back On Track completed the field.
