KENNEWICK, WA—MAY 12, 2019—John Carter Cash and Jose Guerrero surged home to win the $27,498 Pot O’Gold Futurity at Sun Downs on Sunday afternoon.
The pair covered the 300-yard race in 15.762 and earned a 92 speed index.
John Carter Cash ($6.60) is now undefeated in two lifetime starts. He won his trial, one of five held on April 28, and was the overall fastest qualifier to the final with a time of 15.579.
John Carter Cash is a 2-year-old colt by Carters Cartel. He was bred in Oregon by Ronald Raley, out of his Dash Ta Fame mare One Fast Trick. Raley also owned and trained One Fast Trick, a graded stakes winning mare who earned over $80,000 in six stakes wins in the Pacific Northwest. John Carter Cash is owned by Juan Rodriguez and is trained by Jose Rosales Gomez.

Tionesta and jockey Robert Burney closed to gain second place, just over a length in front of Running Springs with Jake Samuels aboard. The pair completed the trifecta as two of the highest odds in the field.
Tionesta was the fourth fastest qualifier and finished second in her trial. The daughter of Hawkinson was bred by James Boyle in Oregon, out of Looks Like Texas by Desirio. She is trained by Saul Rodriguez for owner Jose Mendoza.
Third place finisher Running Springs was the sixth fastest qualifier and finished second in her trial.
Running Springs is owned by Chris Philbrook and is trained by Hector Magallanes. The filly was bred in California by Steve Burns, DVM, by Separate Interest and out of Running Bac, by Splash Bac.
Completing the field were One Famous Disco Man, Corazon Rastado 727, Cut a Swell, Senor Frogs, Jess a Little More, One Flyin Foose and Fooses Flyer.
