Locomotion Girl Posts Fastest Qualifying Time in Utah-Bred Derby Trials at Weber Downs

OGDEN, UT— MAY 18, 2019— Three trials on a rainy Saturday afternoon determined the field for the $30,000-estimated Utah Bred Derby at Weber Downs. The third trial proved to be the fastest, resulting in the top three finishers posting the three fastest qualifying times.

The winner of the third trial and overall fastest qualifier was Locomotion Girl, with Francisco Linan aboard. The pair covered 350 yards in 17.670 to earn a 102 speed index over the sloppy track.

Locomotion Girl is trained by Scott Goodrich for owner Albert Sacco. The 3-year-old daughter of Desirio was bred by The Running A LLC, out of Commotion Motion, by Country Chicks Man.

Locomotion Girl made her first start of the year in Saturday’s trial. As a 2-year-old, she qualified for both the Utah Bred Futurity and the Wyoming Downs Futurity.

Only a nose separated the top two finishers in the fastest trial. Runner up and second fastest qualifier Look Secret posted a time of 17.687 and also earned a 102 speed index. Eddie Aceves was aboard for owner and trainer Adrian Aleman.

Look Secret was bred by Carolyn and Jose Adrian Aleman, by We Have a Secret and out of Righteous Look, by righteous Brother. Look Secret broke her maiden in her previous start, at Pocatello, and qualified for the Onieda County Futurity last summer.

Completing the trifecta was third fastest qualifier Sheebe a Banshee, with Uriel Dominguez aboard for trainer Jordan Hadley and owners Nelson and Wenk LLC. The Sir Runaway Dash filly is still a maiden in six career starts, thought she finished third in the Sweetwater Futurity last fall.

Sheebe a Banshee was bred by Shady Stables, out of Sheebe a Blazin, by Chicks a Blazin.

Though the third trial produced the top three fastest qualifiers, the winners of first and second trials also posted qualifying times.

The winner of the second trial, Corona by Corona, with Jesus Valenzuela up, is the fourth fastest qualifier with a time of 17.804 and a 97 speed index. The 3-year-old son of Corona Cartel is owned by Keith Nellesen and trained by Riley Moosman.

This was the first start outside of Los Alamitos for the Utah-bred gelding. As a 2-year-old, he was second in the $30,000 Ed Burke Million Juvenile and won the $20,000 Holiday Handicap. He is now four for 12 lifetime, with earnings of $29,953.

Corona by Corona was bred by McColee Land & Livestock LLC, out of the Jess Louisiana Blue mare Louisiana Blue.

Mister Fdd won the first trial and posted the seventh fastest qualifying time of 17.941 with a speed index of 93. He was ridden by Uriel Dominguez for trainer Jordan Hadley. Owners Tony and Aubrey Greaves bred the gelding in Utah, by FDD Dynasty and out of their multiple stakes winning mare, Feature Miss Alibi, by Feature Mr Jess.

Mister Fdd has earned $46,267 in nine career starts. His five wins include the $25,000 Corona Chick Handicap at Los Alamitos in November. He also qualified for the Los Alamitos Wild West Futurity, the Hadley/Giles Memorial Futurity at Weber, and won the consolation for the Cowboy State Futurity at Energy Downs.
