Fooses Tat Fastest Qualifier to South Valley Futurity at Laurel Brown

SOUTH JORDAN, UT—JUNE 14, 2019—Quarter Horse racing is back at Laurel Brown, and the track began the 2019 meet with three trials for the $20,510 South Valley Futurity.

The 330-yard final will be held on Friday, June 28.

The second trial produced the top three fastest qualifiers, including the winner and fastest qualifier, Fooses Tat. Fooses Tat and jockey Daniel Carrillo set a time of 16.603 and earned a speed index of 110. The Foose filly was a gate-to-wire winner, defeating second fastest qualifier My Sweet Mia by three-quarters of a length.

This was the fourth career effort from Fooses Tat, who recently finished second in the $77,475 Hadley/Giles Memorial Futurity at Weber Downs.

Fooses Tat is trained by Lazaro Mendoza for owner Roberto Ortiz. She was bred in California by Fawna Knight and Ronald Skeen, out of the Stoli mare Wild Tat Too. Fooses Tat has two wins in four starts and has earned $16,495 to date.

With a time of 16.699, My Sweet Mia and jockey Jesus Canales secured the second fastest qualifying time. My Sweet Mia is trained by Sergio Canales and is owned by Ben and Carol McKinney.

My Sweet Mia broke her maiden in her debut at Weber Downs and qualified for the $51,448 Golden Spike Futurity in April. Bred in California by Eg High Desert Farms LLC, she is out of Clydette Mia, by Red Hot Rhythm.

Third place finisher Freight Boss posted a time of 16.723 in his career debut to be the third fastest qualifier. Freight Boss and Cordarelton Benn broke well but were outnodded at the wire by fast-closing My Sweet Mia.

Freight Boss is owned by Jeffrey Smith and is trained by Glade Van Tassell. He is a Colorado-bred gelded son of Freighttrain B, out of the Wave Carver mare RW Red Wave and was bred by Vista Equine Colorado LLC.

Relentless Fire won the third and final trial to be the fourth fastest qualifier in 16.802. Like My Sweet Mia, Relentless Fire was ridden by Jesus Canales and is trained by Sergio Canales, who also co-owns the gelding with Gabriel Caballo.

Diane Evans bred Relentless Fire in Oklahoma, by Hes Relentless and out of the Walk Thru Fire mare La Dominica.
