Eysa Jess Jumpn Sets The Fastest Time For The Delta Downs Louisiana-Bred Derby

VINTON, LA—JUNE 14, 2019—Delta Downs conducted five trials for this year’s $308,863 Delta Downs Louisiana-bred Derby (RG3) on Friday night and a very familiar name set the fastest time in the 400-yard heats.

Jose Estrada Quarter Horses’ Eysa Jess Jumpn, who took last year’s Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1), won the third trial of the night in a time of :19.429 seconds, which equaled a speed index of 99. Each trial was contested over a fast track.

Eysa Jess Jumpn was ridden to victory by Guadalupe Lucio, Jr. and is trained by Josue Huitron. The 3-year-old filly has now won nine of 12 starts in her career and she has only lost once in five trips at Delta Downs. Her $7,200 paycheck for winning the trial raised her overall bankroll up to $517,070.

Bred in Louisiana by D & S Racing LLC, Eysa Jess Jumpn is a brown filly by Heza Fast Dash, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Jumpn.

Stakes winner Guidry Pride II, a stakes winning son of Sir Runaway Dash, finished second to Eysa Jess Jumpn to get the second fastest time of :19.643 seconds, a 93 speed index. Wendy Garcia saddled the colt for Edmjundo Juarez. Modesto Pina was aboard. Johnny and Cynthia Guidry bred Guidy Pride II from the Panther Mountain mare Guidrys Boodie Doo.

Mardi Gras Derby(RG2) winner Tdz Louisiana Toast was a half-length winner for owner Juan Martinez and trainer Jouse Ponce in the fourth trial to set the third fastest time of :19.691 seconds, a 92 speed index. Manuel Gutierrez rode the Jess Louisiana Blue gelding out of Shes A Royal Toast by Toast To Dash. Bred by Tony Doughtie, Tdz Louisiana Toast has earned $176,273.

Delta Downs will conduct a special 15-race program on Saturday to close out the race week. Each race will serve as a qualifying heat for this year’s $700,293 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1), which will be contested on closing night, July 6. The Saturday card begins early at 3:45 pm CST.
