Pappajeto Dominates UQHRA Open Derby Trials

SOUTH JORDAN, UT—JUNE 14, 2019—Pappajeto, under jockey Daniel Carrillo, rolled to a one-length win in the first of two trials Friday for the UQHRA Open Derby at Laurel Brown Track, setting the fastest qualifying time of :17.467 seconds, a 104 speed index.

David Burt saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Pappasito for himself and co-breeder Linda Burt. The lightly raced bay gelding was making his 2019 debut and has compiled a (6) 2-1-1 record. Winner of the Elko Intermountain Futurity Consolation last September, the Pappajeto is a Utah-bred from the Streak Of Cash mare Streaking Secrets.

Femme Fatalia, a California-bred daughter of leading sire Favorite Cartel, also making her first start of the 2019 season earned a 104 speed index in the second trial when she defeated Rf Shades Gonna Dash by half-a-length.

Ridden by jockey Cordarelton Benn, Femme Fatalia completed the 350 yards in :17.485 seconds. Glade Van Tassel conditions the brown filly for owner Melody Olsen. Steve D. Burns, DVM bred Femme Fatalia from the Chicks Beduino mare Kool Kue Chick. She was second in the Beehive Futurity and Wyoming Downs Futurity last season and has earned $26,659.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Laurel Brown Track Friday, June 28 to vie for the winner's share of a $20,295 purse.
