Yuma Class Prevails In Jerry Stojan Memorial

GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALB—AUGUST 11, 2019—Yuma Class, a 2-year-old son of Three Ten To Yuma B, defeated Chinook Cartel by a neck to win the $13,888(US) Jerry Stojan Memorial Stakes on Sunday at Evergreen Park. Timbergold was a neck back in the blanket-finish to get third.

Ridden by jockey D.I. Benitez, Yuma Class rolled over the 300 yard course in :16.445 seconds, into a 15 mph crosswind, to pocket the winners share of the purse worth $6,377(US).

Trainer Buckey Stockwell saddled the sorrel gelding to his second win in four starts for owner WT Ranch. Ralph Danard bred Yuma Class in Alberta from the Shazoom mare Class Acte. He broke his maiden in his last start and has earned $8,080 this year.

Runner-up Chinook Cartel races for owner-trainer Allen Goodsell. J.B. Botello had the riding call aboard the son of leading second-crop sire Coronado Cartel. Teagan Goodsell bred the sorrel gelding in Alberta from the Separatist mare Lets Get Going. This was his first career start and he earned $2,833 for the effort.

First Timber in Alberta from the First Down Dash mare Gilded Gold. Dwight Lewis was riding.

Coming off a second-place effort in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity July 11, Timbergold earned $1,700(US) to bring her bankroll to $10,329.

Rolling Timber, A Mere Ghost, First Down Daddy and Tee For Teller completed the field.
