Cers Final Try Best in Hobbs America Futurity Trials

HOBBS, NM—SEPTEMBER 20, 2019—Coming off a close effort to Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Uncle D in the $200,000 All American Juvenile on Labor Day, Cers Final Try posted the top qualifying time for the Grade 2 Hobbs America Futurity Saturday afternoon on Zia Park's 2019 opening-day card.

Ridden by jockey Tanner Thedford, Cers Final Try stumbled at the start but quickly recovered to defeat Apollitical B Brioso by one-length while clocking the top time of :19.660 seconds, a 95 speed index into an 8 mph crosswind.

Trainer Tony Sedillo saddled the son of world champion and champion sire One Dashing Eagle for owner Christina D. Robinson. Charles Robinson bred the bay gelding in Oklahoma from the Corona Cartel mare BP Shes

All Corona. Cers Final Try has compiled a (8) 3-2-1 record and banked more than $50,000. After breaking his maiden at Ruidoso in June he also won a trial for the Rainbow Futurity(G1) but failed to quality.

The lightly raced Apollitical B Brioso finished second to Cers Final Try in the last trial but held on to post the second fastest qualifying time of :19.812 seconds, a 91 speed index.

Trainer Jaime Aldavaz, Sr. saddled the son of first-crop sire Apollitical Blood for owner Martin Ybarra, Jr. Making just his fourth career start, the California-bred gelding was starting today off a win in the All American Futurity(G1) trials at Ruidoso on August 16.

Rancho El Cabresto, Inc. bred the bay from the Chicks Beduino Jr mare Chalala. On Friday at the Heritage Place Yearling Sale, in Oklahoma City, Apollitical B Brioso's three-quarter brother by leading sire Apollitical Jess sold for $100,000.

Link Newcomb's Sacred Nation, a gelding by leading sire Favorite Cartel, broke his maiden in the opening trial to get the third fastest time of :19.885 seconds into a 7 mph crosswind. Todd Fincher saddled with jockey Jose Alvarez getting the riding call.

Bred by Steve D. Burns DVM, in California from the Hawkinson mare Tahma Hawk, Sacred Nation had placed in four of five previous starts including second in this All American Futurity trial on August 16.

Apollitical Jess led all sires with three qualifiers.

Zia Park will host three trials for the $80,000-added Hobbs America Derby on Sunday. First post is set for noon (MDT). The first derby trial is Race 4 with a 1:21 p.m. (MDT) estimated post.
