ALTOONA, IA—OCTOBER 12, 2019—Multiple stakes winner Island Gurl got her first win in almost a year Saturday when she posted a half-length effort over The Polar Vortex in the $60,000 Future Of Iowa Stakes Saturday at Prairie Meadows—the same race she won last year!

Ridden by jockey Jorge Torres, Island Gurl raced over the 350 yards in :17.893 seconds, equaling an 88 speed index into a 15 mph crosswind to take home the winner's share of the purse valued at $28,200.

Trainer Tony Dean Jones conditions the 6-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Pappasito for owner Richard Tobin. Bred in Iowa by Shery Andrew, Island Gurl has won nine of 22 starts and banked over $145,000. She is out of the Heza Fast Man mare Streakin Out.

The royally-bred runner-up, The Polar Vortex, races for owner-breeder Thomas Lepic and is trained by Jason Olmstead. Justin Shepherd rode the daughter Carters Cartel from the Shazoom mare Signs Zoomer. A half-sister to champion The Fiscal Cliff, The Polar Vortex earned $11,100 to increase her bankroll to $97,703.

Tony Dean Jones also saddled third-place finisher Storming Red Chickie, for owner-breeder Kevin Heims. Jonathan Dominguez rode the Red Storm Cat 5-year-old out mare of Burn Down Chickie by Chicks Beduino. She picked up $6,300 to bring her earnings total to $75,615.
