GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 12, 2019— Gene Cox's Oklahoma homebred Hot Dam Bam A Lam got the biggest win in his career Saturday with a half-length win over post-time favorite Political Attraction in the $75,000 Grade 1 Refrigerator Stakes at Lone Star Park.

Ridden by jockey John Hamilton, Hot Dam Bam A Lam rolled over the 440 yards in a :21.152 clocking, equaling a speed index of 97 into a 3 mph crosswind. It was the sixth career win for the son of multiple stakes sire Captain Courage and the $42,750 winners' purse boosted his lifetime mark to $181,113.

Trey Ellis conditions the 4-year-old gelding out of the Hot Colours mare Hot Nova. Winner of the Esplanada Stakes in his last start at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Hot Dam Bam A Lam has compiled a (5) 2-0-2 record this season.

Political Attraction put in a solid effort under jockey James Flores to pick up $12,750 for owners Rogelio Marquez, Jr. and Kathy Robinson. Winner of the Grade 1 Remington Park Invitational Quarter Horse Championship two races back, the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess has banked more than $621,000.

Bred in Oklahoma by Ron Lyles, from the Separatist mare Gunsight Peak, the multiple graded winner has won the Sooner State Stakes(RG1), Eastex Stakes(G2), Black Gold 350 Championship Futurity(RG3), and the Speedhorse Futurity(G3).

Starting off a short layoff after winning the Miss Polly Classic Stakes(G3) at Delta Downs in July, Stone Cold Leader earned $7,500 for third. Alfredo Gomez trains the son of Brookstone Bay for owner Patrick Richardson. Mark Michel bred the brown gelding in Indiana from the Leader Of The Class mare Sheza Classy Leader. Stone Cold Leader has won 12 of 27 career starts and earned $497,833.

At odds of 17.90-1 Hot Dam Bam a Lam rewarded handsomely with $37.80, $12.20 and $5.60. Political Attraction again was the favorite and returned $2.80 and $2.60. Stone Cold Leader was third by a neck and paid $2.60.

It was a head back to fourth placed Rock About it followed by Hes Limitless, Rarin, Papaws Paint, Vallero and Strykr Force. Tough to Bee was a late scratch by the Stewards.

APPRENTICE JOCKEY Emmanuel Castaneda rode his first professional race tonight and won it. “I told my mom last night that I was going to win,” said Castaneda. Luckily she and his father were both on hand to see him ride Chicks First Brimm to victory in the fifth race.

It was very emotional in the winner’s circle for young Castaneda and trainer Don Poteet as they embraced with tears of joy. Castaneda just got his riding license two weeks ago and put it to use for the first time tonight. There were a lot of high five’s and salutes from fans as he walked up the tunnel. Waiting for him in the paddock was the biggest surprise as fellow jockeys were waiting. As is customary for a jockey’s first win, he got to take a dip in the paddock fountain. It wasn’t his choice.
