Favorite Latin Lovers Stays Perfect, Sets Top Mark in AQRA President's Futurity Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—OCTOBER 13, 2019—The lightly raced Favorite Latin Lover kept his perfect record intact at 3-for-3 Sunday after a dominating 1-3/4 length trial win to post the fastest qualifying time for the AQRA President's Futurity at Turf Paradise.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Phoenix racetrack on Sunday, November 3rd to vie for the winner's share of a $10,500-added purse going 350 yards.

Ridden by jockey Joseph Belloc, Jr., Favorite Latin Lover was making his first start since winning the Desert Classic Futurity at Turf Paradise last April. The son of leading sire Favorite Cartel completed the 350 yard task in :17.528 seconds, equaling a 102 speed index, to set the top mark from two trials.

Owned-and-trained by Rigoberto Guillen, Favorite Latin Lover was bred in California by the partnership of Steve Burns, Paul Jones and Thompson Racing. The brown gelding, out of Jess Charming by Mr Jess Perry, has banked $24.545 in his three outings.

My Favorite Candy, also a son of Favorite Cartel, finished second to Favorite Latin Lover in the opening trial to get the second fastest time of :17.790 seconds, a 94 speed index, for owner ABA Quarter Horses, LLC.

Jockey Kevin Carbajal had the riding assignment for trainer Guillermo Morales. Still a maiden form six starts this season, the California homebred from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Send The Candy Wagon was making his first start at Turf Paradise. His first four starts were at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Joel Tellez' multiple stakes-placed Wr Jokers R Wild was equally impressive in the second trial, posting a 1-˝ length win and the third fastest clocking of :17.825 seconds, a 93 speed index.

Armando Castellanos trains the Fantastic Corona Jr gelding who second in the Jimenez Tile/GM Racing Stakes and third in the Granite Mountain Quarter Horse Futurity at Arizona Downs in his last two starts.

Robert David Morris bred the sorrel gelding in Kansas from the Gol mare JA Desert Flight. Emilio Tapia was riding the $12,922 earner.
