PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 10, 2019—Check This Wagon, under jockey Luis Valenzuela, defeated Jess C James by half-a-length to win the $10,100 Turf Paradise Maiden Stake (not black type) on Sunday at Turf Paradise.

Saddled by trainer Jose Botello, Check This Wagon completed the 300 yards in :15.497 seconds, equaling a 96 speed index. It was the second win for the 3-year-old son of Paintyourownwagon.

Marco Antonio Hernandez owns the sorrel gelding who was a finalist in the AQRA Turf Paradise Futurity and the AQRA President's Fall Futurity as a 2-year-old. Bred by Rosalio Hernandez Rivera, Check This Wagon picked up $6,012, nearly doubling his earnings total to $11,570.

Fastest qualifier Jess C James earned $1,939 for finishing second. Benito Vega trains the New Mexico-bred son of Jesse James Jr for owner Benito Guillen, Jr. Currie Maben State bred the bay gelding form the Mr Eye Opener mare Christinas Crystal.

Desert Scorpion finished three-quarter back to earn $970 for third. Pedro Urias Soto trains the 4-year-old son of Righter, out of Chase This Fly by Fly Jess Fly, for owner Guadalupe Ramos. Hizain Solis Camacho had the riding assignment.

Jt Scoremesomecash, Stel Saving, Jessie Alexandria, Yn Catita, Easy Pritzis Dash and El Pescadito completed the field.
