One Famous Icon Heads Top Four Qualifiers To AQRA-Turf Paradise Open QH Derby

One Famous Icon Heads Top Four Qualifiers To AQRA-Turf Paradise Open QH Derby

PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 1, 2019—One Famous Icon held off First Lady Perry in the first of two trials Sunday to set the fastest qualifying time for the AQRA-Turf Paradise Open QH Derby. The top four qualifiers came out of the opening trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Turf Paradise on Sunday, December 22nd to vie for the winners' share of a $15,000-added purse going 400 yards.

Ridden by jockey Mark Jasso, One Famous Icon jumped out to big lead then held while completing the 400 yards in :19.581 seconds, equaling a 96 speed index while establishing to mark.

Rigoberto Guillen conditions One Famous Icon, a multiple stakes-placed brother to leading sire One Famous Eagle, for owner Yuriana Ramirez. Bred in Texas by Johnny Trotter, the son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry is out of the Chicks Beduino mare One Famous Lady. He has compiled a (13) 2-3-1 record and banked $28,960.

One Famous Icon was third in the AQRA President's Fall Derby on November 3 and second in last year's AQRA Spring Fling Futurity.

Runner-up First Lady Perry, is a multiple stakes winning daughter of Mr Jess Perry from the Grade 1 producing Heza Fast Man First Lady Amber. Jake Samuels had the riding call for trainer John Allred aboard the five-time winner of $61.714.

First Lady Perry races for owner Scott McDaniel and was bred by McColee Land & Livestock LLC. She stopped the clock at :19.620 seconds, a 95 speed index, for the second fastest time.

Also a stakes winner, Jessa Cat was three-quarter back to get the third fastest clocking of :19.722 seconds, a 93 speed index. Heraclio Botello trains and Kevin Carbajal rides the daughter of multiple stakes sire Stray Cat from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jessa Runner.

Eulaio Juarez owns the William O. Dale Missouri-bred filly. A winner of the Desert Classic Derby earlier this year, she has earned $30,709.

Cartel Rocks, under jockey Jake Samuels, won the second trial to clock the fifth fastest time of :19.733 seconds, a 91 speed index. Danny Montes trains the San Gregorio Racing Stables, Inc. California-bred daughter of champion Five Bar Cartel. The lightly race filly, from the This Snow Is Royal mare Snow Rock, has won two of our career starts.
