BOSSIER CITY, LA—JANUARY 18, 2020—Shake Em Ike won the first of four 350-yard trials run this afternoon for the $50,000-est. Louisiana Downs Maiden Stake (not black type).
Owned by Jose Ortiz, he was bred by Richard and Janelle Simon and was making his seventh career start.
Jockey Heriberto Aguilar-Orozco guided the 4-year-old son of Jet Black Patriot out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Shakemuppery to a gate to wire victory in :17.608 seconds over a muddy track to post the top qualifying time. Trained by Olegario Ortiz, Shake Em Ike earned a 94 speed index.
Sent off as the even-money choice, he paid $4.20 for his second lifetime victory and earned $3,600 to boost his career earnings to $22,830.
