RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 22, 2020—Elmer, a homebred racing for owner-breeder Feliz Montana Ranch, LLC, rolled to a three-quarter length win in his career debut Friday to post the fastest qualifying time on day 1 of the Grade 1 $1-million Ruidoso Futurity trials, opening day at Ruidoso Downs.
The five fastest qualifiers, from 14 trials contested on Friday and the five fastest qualifiers 14 trials contested on Saturday, will meet on June 7th to vie for the winner's share, valued at $420,000, of the million-dollar Grade 1 futurity.
Ridden by jockey Federico Martinez, for trainer Jose Meraz, Elmer completed the 350 yard task in :17.799 seconds, an 86 speed index into a 10 mph headwind, to clock the top qualifying mark. He picked up $4,800 of the trial purse valued at $8,000.
A son of world champion sire FDD Dynasty, Elmer is the first foal of the Apollitical Jess mare Treasured Dreams. Feliz Montana Ranch, LLC paid $45,000 Treasured Dreams at the 2013 Los Alamitos Equine Mixed Sale. She won one of eight career starts and was a finalist in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and earned $44,175. She is out of the stakes winning and multiple stakes producing Tres Seis mare Answer The Dream.

B Icy broke his maiden in his career debut March 13 at Sunland Park but had to go back on the shelf following the COVID-19 outbreak that closed all the New Mexico based tracks for a couple of months. He is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Icy Valentine.
Wootan Racing's Misscandymountain was super impressive when she romped to 1-½ length win in her career debut to secure the third fastest clocking :17.900, an 84 speed index into a 7 mph headwind. Winning the 10th trials, she was the only horse to qualify into the final after the fourth race on Friday.

Tuckk, a $35,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, repurchase for owner-breeder Bobby Simmons broke his maiden in his career debut in the opening trial Friday to get the fourth fastest clocking of :17.934 seconds, an 83 speed index into an 11 mph headwind.
The son of champion sire Tres Seis was the second qualifier for trainer Michael Joiner. Raul Ramirez, Jr. rode the sorrel colt, out of Shez Jess Nice by Mr Jess Perry.
Rancho El Cabresto Inc. bred the sorrel gelding form the Chicks Beduino Jr mare Chalala. He picked up his first win in three starts this season, entering the trials off a third-place effort in the Heritage Place Futurity trials at Remington park May 8th.
